We hope you are doing well!

In this issue, we are sharing a look at Sentient’s Theory of Change, which shows how the work we do leads to the kind of impact we are aiming for. We will also tell you about our new Global Animal Activists Community (GAAC) Program, and give you an update on the very first group to complete our Investigations 101 Online Course.

We have also included a few updates from the movement that we think you will want to know about, such as, upcoming events and conferences.

Sentient's Theory of Change
Everything we do at Sentient starts with one question: How can we make real, lasting change for animals? Our Theory of Change answers that by showing how our daily work leads to long-term impact.

We focus on three main areas:
  • Equipping investigators with training, tools, and support so they can document cruelty safely and effectively.
  • Building a strong investigator community where activists can connect, share knowledge, and grow together.
  • Shifting public attitudes through educational campaigns that promote compassion, veganism, and action.
Each part of this strategy supports the others. When investigators are well trained, deeply connected, and backed by a movement of informed supporters, we move closer to a world that values and protects all sentient life.

Growing Together: The Global Animal Activists Community (GAAC) Program
Investigating animal cruelty is not easy, and many activists do it without much support. That is why we helped create the Global Animal Activists Community (GAAC) – a space where investigators from around the world can connect, share ideas, and support each other.

GAAC started with over handful activists, and it has grown into a trusted place for learning and community. Through online social events, group chats, and mentorship, we make sure no one feels alone in this work.

This year, we are putting enhanced focus on helping activists in Asia and other parts of the Global South so that everyone has the tools and support they need to make a difference.

Investigations 101: Training the Next Generation of Investigators
Becoming an animal rights investigator is not easy, especially when many activists have to figure things out on their own. That is why we created Investigations 101 – a free, 10 week online course that helps new and aspiring investigators build skills, confidence, and community.

In January 2025, we ran the very first course with six passionate activists from around the world. Over ten weeks, they learned everything from digital safety and equipment use to legal strategy, mental resilience, and effective campaigning. The course also gave them an platform to connect, reflect, and learn from each other.

The feedback was deeply encouraging. Many shared that the sessions were eye opening, the follow ups were the most valuable part, and the course gave them the confidence to begin investigative work. We are now preparing for the second batch, set to launch in September or October 2025.
